Baseball: Junior varsity downs Loboes

The Panthers junior varsity Blue squad extended their win streak with an 8-6 victory over Monahans on March 31.

“Brian Encinas, Jorel Tapp, and Ayden Villarreal had great outing for the panthers. The Panthers offense once again stayed hot and contributed to the win. I couldn’t have asked much more of these boys, they always leave everything on the field,” Fort Stockton coach Luis Dominguez said.

Diaz walk-off, Nunez gem propel Panthers past Monahans

Fort Stockton freshman sensation Gerry Diaz and sophomore Rylan Nunez have put 4A District 3 opponents on notice.

The underclassmen duo had their best performances of their young careers on Friday in a rematch against Monahans.

Nunez tallied a season-best 13 strikeouts on the mound in his second start of the season and Diaz sealed Fort Stockton’s 5-4 victory via a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Panther tennis duo crowned district champions

For the first time since 2019, the Fort Stockton tennis team came away from the district meet with a pair of district champions.

Senior Jeremiah Ramirez and sophomore CT Dominguez won a doubles title at the Panthers 4A district meet in Midland on March 31 following a dominant performance in the championship match against Seminole.

Ramirez and Dominguez defeated the No. 1 seeded Indians duo in straight sets (6-2, 6-0).

Hodges, Hernandez snag gold at Levelland track meet

Despite not competing in relay events, the Panther track put forth a noteworthy effort on March 24 at the Levelland track meet. Zane Hodges won the 110-meter hurdles and the 300 hurdles, attaining two of the Panthers’ three gold medals.

Prowlers corralled by rival Monahans

SOFTBALL STANDINGS • Monahans 5-0 • Andrews 4-1 • Pecos 3-2 • Greenwood 2-3 • Fort Stockton 1-4 • Seminole 0-5 Fort Stockton was defeated via run rule for the first time this season in a 13-3 road loss on March 24 against defending district champion Monahans. The Lady Loboes plated four runs in the fourth inning and added eight runs in the third frame to end the game after 4 ½ innings.

Three Panthers nab all-district honorable mention accolades

A trio of Panther basketball players were named to the honorable mention 4A District 3 Honorable Mention team following the 20222023 season. Seniors Cruz Rojas and Aryan Hernandez, as well as freshman Diego Ronquillo were selected to the honorable mention squad.

Panthers pounce on rival Loboes

Alfredo Molina put forth his best pitching performance of the season on March 28 at Monahans, tying a season-high strikeout mark (7), and the Panthers strung together a pair of three-run innings to earn their first district victory.

Molina tossed a complete game and allowed eight hits, one walk, and one earned run to go along with his seven strikeouts in the 8-2 win for the Panthers.

The senior threw a season-high 103 pitches – 20 higher than his previous season-best mark.

Middle school track: A golden day for Panther trio

Fort Stockton’s high school track team has been a dominant force this season following their first area championship campaign in school history in 2022.

Following last week’s Fort Stockton Middle School Comanche Relays, it’s fair to say the high school program has plenty of potential to sustain its success in the years ahead.

Eighth graders Angel Lujan and Kade Castillo won nine of the 10 events they competed in to lead the Panthers to a team title at the Comanche Relays.

Seminole completes sweep of Panthers in nail-biter

Fort Stockton’s bats were back up to par in their rematch with Seminole on March 24 at home.

But four Panther errors, a pair of home steals, and a missed opportunity at the plate in the final inning allowed the Indians to capture a 7-6 win over Fort Stockton to complete the regular season sweep.

Fort Stockton turned a 4-1 deficit into a 6-4 lead during a five-run fourth inning before Seminole’s late rally.

Freshman Gerry Diaz (15) continued his productive freshman campaign on March 24 against Seminole with a team-best two hits. Diaz had a .486 batting average in 45 plate appearances heading into Tuesday’s contest at Monahans. The mark is third-best on the team for players who have at least 20 at bats.
