Opening The New Radio Shack – Gary Weddle and his staff held grand opening ceremonies, complete with official ribbon cutting on Friday morning for the new American Energy of Pecos County Radio Shack dealership, at 1301 West Dickinson Blvd. Weddle and his parents have purchased the inventory of the Radio Shack formerly operated by Chris and Clayton Alexander in a downtown location, and the family operation in Fort Stockton’s new Radio Shack authorized dealer. CITATION – Oran W. Nicks, left, son of Mr. and Mrs. O.M. Nicks of Fort Stockton, was presented the NASA leadership medal by President Johnon in ceremonies at the White House last week. Nicks was one of three space officials honored for their parts in the recent Mariner space probe which transmitted televised pictures of Mars.

1982 issue: New Carpet Store: A ribbon-cutting by the Fort Stockton Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors officially launched the city’s newest carpet store last Friday morning – Hill Carpets, located at 417 N. Main, in the former Lewis Shoe Store location. Pictured at right of center post in photo are Willie Hill Sr., Sylvia Hill, and Willie Hill Jr., owners and operators. Ambassador Boss Harlan Lambert holds the ribbon at left and the other end is held by Judge Charles Warnock (far right) Miss Fort Stockton Melanie McKenzie, was also on hand to wish the business a successful future in the Blue Ribbon City. Words of welcome were given by Judge Warnock. Chamber President E.F. Triplett (to right of Lambert) and Mayor Bruce McKenzie. The Hills have a successful carpet operation in Odessa and have now expanded to Fort Stockton.

July 1968 issue: OPTIMIST AWARDS – Three members of the Fort Stockton Optimist Club receive the congratulations of the zone lieutenant-governor, Wendell Taylor of Pecos, after being given awards at the annual club installation of officers Saturday night. Honored were, (L-R) Fred Roper, who was named Optimist of the Year; Charlie Barber, who received a life membership in Optimist International; Lieutenant-governor Taylor; and Pat Taylor, who received pins as a past president and previous life-member.
