LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Body
Dear editor, On behalf of myself and the entire Pecos County Historical Commission, I want to thank the community for its support for our recent dedication of the new Texas Historical Marker honoring Felis Garza and Bernardo and Cesario Torres. In particular, I wanted to thank Precinct Four Commissioner Nathan Reeves for all of he and his crew’s help in installing the new marker and maintaining its surroundings, as well as Sheriff Thomas Perkins and his deputies for directing traffic and closing off the road.

Letter to the Editor Recently, the Department of Homeland Security has moved forward with plans for the construction of a physical border wall through Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. So, why no wall? Here are my questions: Why does it matter to me? It is unnecessary because immigration through the Big Bend section of the border is 1% of the total for the southern border and constitutes ¼ of its length, 517 miles.

Dear FSISD School Community, This will be my final year as Superintendent. I communicated my intent to the school board in January 2025.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Body
This letter is in regard to the situation with the Pecos County Memorial Hospital District and Dr Pamela Gougler contract dispute. My first question is: Why would you not renew a contract that generates revenue for the hospital? Dr Gougler sees patients and they are charged for the visit. She might order Lab or Radiology exams for the treatment of her patient and that is more revenue for the hospital. Dr Gougler is an asset and not a liability. I worked at Pecos County Memorial Hospital as Radiology Director for over 40 years. It is a business like it or not and the hospital must have revenue to survive regardless of County or as Hospital District. We always had budget meetings every month for departmental functions and revenue with expenditures. The hospital would help itself by identifying each HealthCare Professional as to how they impact hospital operations. How many patients do they see and the revenue they generate for the PCMHD as we did in our departmental meetings back then. Hopefully this letter will not be necessary by next Thursday if the contract dispute is settled. But we honestly must review the PCMHD mission statement and identify assets vs liabilities. Our taxes went up and what did we get? Removal of MD’s Medical Doctors which are the lifeblood of any medical facility. PCMHD we can do better than that. Respectfully Submitted, Orlando Gonzales Radiology Director (PCMH) Retired

Don’t let Dr. Gougler get away!

I write this on behalf of myself; however, I have been told countless times I am speaking for many including some that are afraid of losing their jobs at the hospital. There is a consensus of concern and confusion for us who see Dr.

Regarding the Proposed FSISD School Bond

Body
As a lifelong resident of Fort Stockton and a proud member of this blessed community for over 60 years, I feel called to share my thoughts about the bond proposition for Fort Stockton ISD. I have worked for the district for more than 30 years, many of them as the Business Manager, so I feel I know a little bit about the subject. Over the years, I have seen the sacrifice and love poured into giving our children a better future.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor, A couple of huge wind projects are applying for property tax exemptions from the hospital district and the county. The 2 projects posted in this paper total about 1.7 billion dollars.

In reference to the proposed raising of property taxes: I can’t say that I know other people’s circumstances. I can only speak for my own. Because of inflation and prices being higher every time I shop for anything, each time I go to buy supplies or food, I look at my list of needed things and decide which things I must have right away, and which things can stay on the list till another time.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor, In our current political climate, we have a lot of people who insist that government “can’t do anything right” and we shouldn’t trust it to deliver good service for us. I am happy to report that out here in Pecos County your government works very well and efficiently.
