GARDENER’S MAILBAG Dear Neil: I am moving to a new home and need advice on trees. I love oaks and their durability, but acorns and pollen are daunting to keep up with.

Dear Editor, I’d like to give a shout out to an amazing group of young men from DEPCOM Power’s Bakersfield Solar Plant who volunteered at our community food bank on March 23. This crew, led by Alexander Dominguez, unloaded 8400 pounds of produce from WTFB’s Produce Pod, handed out that produce to our clients, and helped us store the rest.

GUEST COLUMNIST The sun is shining today and Spring is upon us. Such days remind me still of the excitement I knew when I turned 16 in April and was finally able to get my driver’s license — a wondrous rite of passage fewer and fewer teens choose to experience today.

GUEST COLUMNIST Regardless of how bitter the immigration argument – and the debate routinely sinks to new hostility lows – everyone should agree that open borders must not be allowed to disrupt public education. If an individual’s station in life prevents him from enrolling his children in private schools, then a solid public education is essential.
