In the three year cycle of Scriptural passages assigned to Sundays in years A, B and C the passages chosen for the Sundays following Easter this year include Jesus’ appearances as the Risen Lord to the disciples gathered on Resurrection Day evening (from John 20) and His appearance to the disciples later as they return to Galilee “to fish” ( John 21 but see Matthew 28). Although Year C is Luke’s year, the walk to Emmaus appearance earlier on Resurrection Day is not “on the schedule” in 2025. Instead, we hear Jesus urge the disciples to “receive the Holy Spirit” and facilitate reconciliation among those seeking the Kingdom of God in their lives.
