The chart above represents sales tax numbers from this year compared to last years. The April 20 and April 21 numbers are from sales tax in the respective cities in the month of February. On the right the sales tax information represents the year-to-date numbers compared to the year to date numbers at the same time a year ago. The City of Fort Stockton has a current sales tax rate of 8.25% and of that that rate, 6.25% is retained by the state each month before sending the city their amount, which is received two months later.

Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) is inviting high school students throughout the Texas 23rd Congressional District to participate in the 2021 Congressional Art Competition. Students in grades 9-12 may submit twodimensional entries such as paintings, drawings, photos, computergenerated art, collages, and prints to Gonzales’ office for consideration.

Animals have always been close to the heart for Fort Stockton residents Nicole Bennett and Dennis Gross. And in the past year and a half, the two have teamed together, along with fellow Fort Stockton resident Heather Pass, to save animals thousands of animals lives in the Fort Stockton area.

Fort Stockton native Calistra Acosta Valenzuela will hit a significant milestone in her life on April 22. The Fort Stockton High School graduate, who was born in Fort Stockton on April 22, 1921 to Lazaro Acosta and Miquela Salmon Acosta, will turn 100-years-old.

In an effort to retain employees and for superior performances throughout the unprecedented pandemic this past year, Fort Stockton City Council approved a one-time stiped of $1,200 for full-time city employees on April 13 at the council’s regular meeting.
