The food pantry for the First Presbyterian Church rescheduled their pickup day to July 29 for this month due to vacation bible school taking place. The food pantry will be back on schedule in the month of August, which is regularly held the fourth Monday of the month (August 23).

COVID-19 active cases have rose in many areas in the state of Texas and across the country in the past few weeks. That trend does not apply to Pecos County as there currently three active cases in the county as of July 21.

Local author and illustrator Jenny B. Tavarez is launching the Texas Animal Book summer reading tour for kids, which began on July 15 in her hometown at the Fort Stockton Public Library.

The Fort Stockton Independent School District took necessary step to secure $4.9 million in federal funding on Monday at a stakeholder input meeting that was open to the public at the district’s administrative building.

During their special meeting on Monday, July 12, 2021, the FSISD School Board approved a new at-will pay and evaluation system as presented by Assistant Superintendent Gil-Rey Madrid. Superintendent Dr.

David “Tex” Gomez’s memory will live on at his alma mater, Fort Stockton High School, with a historical display that could encourage students to follow their dreams. His family donated a framed photograph of President Harry Truman to the school on July 16, along with a plaque to honor Gomez and a promise to further add to the display in years to come.

Local artist Steven Walker will represent Fort Stockton in the inaugural Basin 52 art exhibit. The art project will place fiftytwo works by 52 different West Texas artists in various city buildings across Odessa from Oct.1, 2021 to Sept. 30, 2022.

The Fort Stockton Independent School District School Board met for a special session on July 12. Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Zamora presented the board with several new ideas, explaining how each should be considered to improve the district.
