Data center set to bring in 50 jobs

The county has its eyes set on bringing in another data center, which would boost economic development and community growth. The Pecos County Commissioners Court approved a resolution establishing the Mohave Reinvestment Zone and a tax abatement agreement with Fort Blocks LLC, a subsidiary of Cormint Data Systems, for a data hosting and distribution facility at their regular meeting on Nov.

FSHS students participate in NASA program

Fort Stockton High School was put on the map after two students were chosen for the NASA High School Aerospace Scholars Program. Acclimated for high school juniors in Texas, the program allows participants to engage in a STEM learning environment that focuses on NASA’s mission and the next generation of explorers.

Victor Korir, of Bakersfield, CA at 2:33 p.m. officers from the Pecos County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Korir, who had a failure to appear warrant form criminal mischief more than $2,500 and less than $30,000. Korir received a $6,000 bond and was released the same day.

Annual art show set for Saturday

The Fort Stockton Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to attend the 47th Annual Arts & Crafts Show at the Pecos County Civic Center on Saturday, Nov. 20.

Shop for unique toys and gifts from local and regional crafters and artists for everyone on your holiday list.

Doors open at 10 a.m. and admission is free. The funds raised during the Arts & Crafts Fair are used for scholarships presented annually to local students heading to college.

FSISD adds Spanish Trail Lodge to housing arsenal

School housing for professional staff within the Fort Stockton Independent School District made a significant leap in quantity on Nov. 15 at the district’s regular board meeting.

The Fort Stockton ISD school board decided to move forward with the purchase of the Spanish Trail Lodge for $705,000.

The facility is planned to be a significant recruitment tool for new professional staff in the future.

Hotel tax to aid convention center renovations

The Fort Stockton Convention Center will begin to receive additional funds for the renovation of the facility beginning on Dec. 1.

A new hotel tax will begin to be imposed within city limits starting on Dec. 1 in Fort Stockton after a canvas of votes was approved at the city council’s regular meeting on Nov. 8.

The city held a special election on Nov. 2 in order to pass a hotel occupancy tax, which is to not exceed 2% of the price paid for such a room.

Representative Andrew Murr (R-Junction) made a stop in Fort Stockton to speak with county and city officials on Nov. 15 at the Pecos County Courthouse. Murr stated during his speech that Pecos County will be a part of District 53 starting in 2023, meaning Pecos County residents will have the opportunity to vote for him as their state representative this upcoming election. COVID cases on the rise

Confirmed COVID-19 active cases in Pecos County are once again on the rise after a resurgence of the virus in the last two weeks.

The number of active cases in the county was at 29 on Nov. 5 and that number increased 46 as reported on Nov. 16.
On Nov. 11 the number of active cases surpassed 40 for the third time since the Delta variant was tracked in late July. Active case numbers increased over 40 for the first time on Aug. 26 before dropping below 40 on Sept. 15.
