Fourth of July cookout to cost consumers more this year

Consumers in Texas and across the country will pay more for a Fourth of July cookout, according to a recent American Farm Bureau Federation marketbasket survey.

The national average cost of a summer cookout for 10 people is $69.68, which breaks down to less than $7 per person. The overall cost for the cookout is up 17% or about $10 from last year, a result of ongoing supply chain disruptions, inflation, and the war in Ukraine.

The Texas Department of Public Safety will be increasing the number of Texas Highway Patrol Troopers on the road from Thursday, June 24, through Sunday, July 10, as part of the Intoxicated Driving Mobilization (IDM) - Specific Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP).

Round 2: Annexation of land set in motion

The annexation process for the 20.1 acres of land owned by A&B Prestige LLC was set into motion once again by the Fort Stockton City Council at their regular meeting on June 27. The Fort Stockton City Council approved a municipal services agreement with A&B Prestige and set a public hearing date of Monday, July 25 for the annexation of “certain property” at the city council’s meeting on July 27.

Ixzayana Lara Hernandez, of Fort Stockton at 5 p.m., officers from the Pecos County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Hernandez and was charged with assault causes bodily injury family violence. Hernandez received a $2,000 bond and is still in jail.

Construction at the Centennial Bar Lounge, located at the corner of Second and Main Street in Fort Stockton, has made significant progress in recent time and will soon be open to the public in the coming months.

SRO decision upcoming for Fort Stockton ISD

The Fort Stockton Independent School District will hold their regular school board meeting on Thursday, June 30 starting at 6 p.m. at the district’s administrative building. The School Resource Officer Program for the 2022-2023 school year is one of the 12 action items on the agenda. At a special school board meeting on June 8, the school board discussed at length the number of school resource officers the district should employ.

‘Produce Pod’ visits Fort Stockton

On June 21, the West Texas Food Bank sent its “Produce Pod” to Our Lady of Guadalupe Food Bank. The ‘pod’ is a refrigerated trailer that delivers fresh produce, eggs, and dairy goods to food banks in a five-county area to supplement the nutritional needs of food bank clients.

The pod contained 4,700 pounds of fruit, vegetables, eggs, milk, and cheese.

FSA accepting nominations for local committees

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency (FSA) is now accepting nominations for county committee members. Elections will occur in certain Local Administrative Areas (LAA) for members. LAAs are elective areas for FSA committees in a single county or multi-county jurisdiction. This may include LAAs that are focused on an urban or suburban area.
