The countdown has officially begun for the 2026 Big Bend Open Road Race (BBORR), an event that transforms a stretch of public highway into a high-octane arena for speed enthusiasts. Known as “The Most Challenging Open Road Race in the World,” this year’s competition is set to take place from Wednesday, April 22, through Saturday, April 25.

Preserving the Story of the Fort Stockton Lions Club and Its Community Traditions

As part of the America 250 community heritage initiative, the Pecos County Historical Commission continues its effort to document and celebrate the organizations that have helped shape the history and civic life of Pecos County. This year, the commission highlighted the legacy of the Fort Stockton Lions Club, the longest continuously operating civic organization in the community, during one of its most successful and beloved service events of the year — the club’s annual Easter Egg Hunt.

GARDENER’S MAILBAG Dear Neil: I save amaryllis bulbs soon after the holiday season from friends and neighbors and plant them in a protected spot in my garden. The plants do well, and the new bulbs usually bloom the first year, but rarely do I get blooms after that first year.
