Panther Baseball loses season-opening shootout

The Fort Stockton varsity baseball team faced a 16-7 deficit heading into the final inning of their season opener on the road against Brownfield. The Panthers scored eight runs in the top of the seventh inning and had the tying run at third base with two outs but were unable to complete the comeback in a 15-14 defeat.

Chavez, No. 1 Monterey put on a show in Fort Stockton

Fort Stockton’s Special Events Center played host to a rare spectacle in the city on Friday evening as the No. 1 ranked Lubbock Monterey Lady Plainsmen and star sophomore Aaliyah Chavez took to the court against the No. 25 ranked El Paso Burges Lady Mustangs in a 5A area round clash.

Buena Vista Freshman Caden Valdez scored 26 points for the Buena Vista Longhorns in Tuesday night’s Class 1A bi-district championship at the Bill and Virginia Williams Special Events Center, leading the Longhorns to a 60-49 win over the Balmorhea Bears.  

A slow start for Buena Vista gave Balmorhea confidence and an early six-point advantage in the first period before the Longhorns (22-9 overall) made it a four-point game after the eight minutes of play.

Prowler varsity starts home softball tourney with perfect record

Fort Stockton’s varsity defeated the Prowlers junior varsity team 10-2 in their final game of pool play during the Third Annual Comanche Classic on Feb. 16. The Prowlers varsity program also defeated Lamesa 6-2 and Reagan County 15-1 to attain a 3-0 record on Thursday.

Fort Stockton will advance to the 2 p.m. semifinal game on Saturday, Feb. 18 in the championship bracket against the runner-up of Pool B, which plays today.

Pool B teams include Pecos, McCamey, Presidio, and Clint.

Panthers roll Pecos in season finale

The Fort Stockton basketball team concluded their season with a 64-33 victory over Pecos at home on Feb. 15 in a rescheduled game from Tuesday due to high winds in the Pecos area.

Freshman sensation Diego Ronquillo led the Panthers with 15 points and senior Ethan Acosta, who led the Panthers in scoring during district play, scored 11 points, including a trio of 3-pointers.
