Panthers enter districts battletested

Body

Rewind 365 days and the Panthers’ record was at 1-5 entering district play. Three games later Fort Stockton was crowned district champions and the Panthers went on to advance to the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.

This season the script is flipped for Mike Peters’ squad, but the mindset and approach has not changed in any capacity.

Fort Stockton senior quarterback Dominic Aguilar runs around a pair of El Dorado defends during the Panthers homecoming game on Oct. 8. Aguilar could be relied upon a great deal on Friday as the health of starting running back Corbin Luna may prevent the sophomore standout from playing.

Fort Stockton’s offense has done what they want to do, when they want to do it for a majority of their 2021 campaign thus far – averaging 483 yards of offense and 37 points per game through six outings.

But the Panthers defense has been just as impressive as their counterpart the past few weeks.
