Seasoned group leads Fort Stockton tennis for upcoming fall season
Fort Stockton’s tennis team made significant progress a season ago under head coach Victor Garcia. They’ll look to build upon that success this season with a group that features a majority of their top athletes from a season ago.
No. 1 girl’s single duo, Athena Gomez and Jaslyn Pacheco, are primed to make a push in the postseason after accomplishing a feat last spring that hadn’t been done in four years.
Gomez and Pacheco qualified for regionals during the spring tennis season and paired for a competitive bi-district playoff match against powerhouse San Elizario last fall.
Gomez was the No. 1 singles player while Pacheco was the No. 2 singles player a season ago.
In addition to the Prowlers top duo from a season ago, Daeja Dominguez and Valleria Hernandez return after a run in the varsity lineup last season. Dominguez was the No. 3 singles player and Hernandez was slotted in as the No. 6 singles player. Dominguez, who was on the No. 2 doubles team, could be paired with Hernandez this upcoming season.
Hernandez was on the No. 3 double team a season ago.
The Panthers also return their top two athletes from 2021-2022. Jacob Pacheco was the No. 1 singles player in both the fall and spring.
Pacheco advanced to the boy’s singles semifinals at Fort Stockton’s district meet and finished in fourth place to conclude the spring season.
Jeremiah Ramirez was the No. 2 singles player in the fall and paired with Pacheco to form the No. 1 doubles team.
Cruz Rocha and Christian Dominguez will be the likely candidates for the No. 2 doubles team for the boy’s squad this fall and will slot in as the No. 3 and No. 4 singles players.
