The Fort Stockton volleyball team tallied a 4-2 record on their way to a fifth-place finish in the Bronze Bracket at the Nita Vannoy Tournament in San Angelo on Aug. 20-21.

The Prowlers qualified for the Bronze Bracket by going 2-1 in pool play and falling victim to a threeteam tiebreaker that resulted in them being third in their pool standings.

“Our Prowler girls battled really hard against one of the toughest pools,” Fort Stockton head coach Gabrielle Harral said. “Our hearts were broken after seeing the results.”

Fort Stockton, San Angelo Central, and El Paso Pebble Hills each recorded 2-1 records in Pool 5.

The Prowlers opened play on Aug. 20 with a three-set loss to San Angelo Central (25-19, 19- 25, 13-25). Ivanna Ortiz showed superior defensive play in the loss, tallying a team-best 23 digs and Eliana Mata added a double-double, recording 11 assists and 12 digs.

Alyana Dominguez and Brianna Flores tied for a team-best two blocks apiece in the defeat.

Fort Stockton followed with wins over El Paso Pebble Hills (12-25, 25- 21, 25-23) and Colorado City (26-24, 25-16) on Friday.

The Prowlers spread out their offensive attack in the contests as seven players finished with at least two kills apiece in the wins. Aislynn Robledo had a team-best 11 kills in the two contests combined.

Fort Stockton finished the tournament with a 2-1 record on day two. Harral’s squad fell to Odessa High (14-25, 19- 25) to start the day before defeating district foe Monahans (25-18, 17-25, 25- 19) and Texas Leadership Academy of San Angelo (21-25, 25-21, 25-18).

"My team did good hitting and digging the ball. Service was a little rocky but we surpassed that and competed against some really good teams," Harral said of her team's play. "The team is doing so well. They take what coach Gonzalez and I tell them and are applying it each day. We are making improvements for the better and getting ready for district play."

Dominguez tallied a tournament-best 13 kills in Fort Stockton's win over TLCA while Robledo added 12. Mata had an all-around productive tournament 37 assists, 19 kills, seven digs, and three aces.

The finish for Fort Stockton was equivalent to 21st place out of 31 teams as there were eight teams in each the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Brackets, as well as seven teams in the Bronze Challenger Bracket.

Fort Stockton’s game with Wink on Aug. 24 was cancelled. The Prowlers are scheduled to host a home tournament Aug. 27-28.
