Prowlers find success at sub-varsity home tourney
Freshman and junior varsity girl basketball teams from across the area descended on Fort Stockton High School last weekend for the Prowlers’ sub-varsity basketball tournament. Fort Stockton brought two teams to the tournament, and both got quality wins.
In addition to the two Prowler teams, Sanderson, Midland Christian, Reagan County, McCamey, Permian, Midland Classical Academy, Greenwood and Presidio competed.
On Nov. 12, the Fort Stockton Blue team took on Odessa Permian in the first game, defeating Mojo 60-47.
Jocelynn Arcides led the Prowlers well-balanced offense with 12 points.
Victoria Maldonado had 11 points, Dmya Vaughn tallied nine points, and both Karissa Salmon and Adamari Renteria recorded seven points apiece.
Fort Stockton's JV Blue took on Greenwood in their last game of the tournament, with the Prowlers taking down Rangerettes 50-22.
Jocelynn Arcides led the Prowlers with 14 points, Victoria Maldonado added nine points, Dmya Vaughn seven points and Thiara Wislar six points.
The junior varisty White team took on McCamey in their first matchup on day two, grabbing a 40-29 win. Addison Castro led the Prowlers with 17 points, Madalyn Gomez added nine points and Rylee Weist recorded seven.
In their last game of the tournament, Fort Stockton downed Sanderson 33-27. The offense was led by Addison Castro who sunk 15 points, Havyn Gaytan added five points and Yaritza Hernandez rounded out the scoring with four points.
The Prowlers opened the tournament Nov. 10 and grabbed two additional wins.
Fort Stockton JV Blue were 2-for-2 on Thursday afternoon with a 39-8 win over Reagan County and later, a 46-9 win against Midland Christian.
Fort Stockton JV White came out and battled in their first tournament of the year, defeating the Presidio Lady Blue Devils 37-28. In the second game, the Prowlers fell to Midland Classical 47-17.
