A trio of individual gold-medal performances by the Prowler and Panther powerlifting teams led both squads to team titles on Jan. 15 at the Sandhills Invitational in Monahans.

Rosa Hernandez, Yadira Hernandez, and Tori Wilkins earned gold medals in their respective weight divisions for the Prowlers.

Jose “Pollo” Hernandez and Justin “Joker” Sanchez were recognized as outstanding lifters for the Panthers by coach Jeremy Boatright.

The duo provided critical points in a tight team race. Fort Stockton edged Andrews and Big Spring by one point, totaling 41 points while the Mustangs and Steers tallied 40 points apiece.

Jose set personal records in deadlift and squat while Sanchez completed a 325-pound bench press.

“It was a blast watching these young men compete and representing Fort Stockton in such a great way,” assistant coach Jhett Norman said of the Panthers performance.

For the Prowlers, Iza bella Diaz received a silver medal with an 845-pound lift total.

Beverly Beaza, Arianna Bladeras, and Alessandra Sanchez placed third for the Prowlers. Gabby Renteria finished in fourth place in her respective division with a 595-pound lift total.

The Panthers final medal tally was three golds, three silvers, one bronze, and one fourth place medal.

The Prowler and Panther powerlifting teams will head to the Andrews Invite on Saturday, Jan. 29. The Panthers will send an additional squad to the Alpine Invitational the same day.
