Fort Stockton sophomore Ali Jackson made her presence known on West Texas cross country courses this past fall, qualifying for state for the first time in Class 4A.

Now she is making her impact felt on the track.

The sophomore claimed gold medals in the 400-meter dash and the 800 at Saturday’s Comanche Relays, and earned a silver medal in the 200.

Jackson claimed the 400 title in 1 minute 2.58 seconds -- .01 seconds ahead of Jami Kinzee of Odessa Compass Academy. The underclassman won the 800 in 2:24.24 – nearly five seconds ahead of runner up Arianna Escobedo of Crane.

Jackson’s performance earned her Pioneer Athlete of the Week and led the Prowlers to a fifth-place finish as a team in Division I (varsity) out of 24 schools. She was one of the three girls who claimed multiple individual titles at Saturday’s meet. Kallie Bullard of Pecos won the 1,600 and 3,200 while Valerie Hunt of Monahans earned gold medals in the shot put, discus, and the pole vault.

Seven additional Prowlers placed in the Division I competitions. Adree Bueno placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 99 feet 5 inches.

The Prowlers 400 relay team (Rosa Hernandez, Adrianna Aguilar, Estrella Aguilar, Aislynn Robledo) finished in fourth place in 52.27 -- .05 seconds behind runner-up Greenwood. Three of the four girls from that relay team (Hernandez, Adriana Aguilar, Robledo) were joined by Yaneli Caballero for the 800 relay. The unit placed sixth (1:56.38).

Leslie Esquivel finished in fifth place in the 1,600 (mile) in 6:13.09.

Romero leads junior varsity Prowlers

Ruby Romero was the top performer for the Prowlers junior varsity team on Saturday at the Comanche Relays.

The Prowlers JV competed in Division 2, which featured numerous varsity teams from Class 1A and other JV squads that were Class 2A or higher.

Romero took first place in the 100 in a time of 13.34 seconds.

Romero was joined by Larie Urbano, Arissa Jimenez, and Paulina Hernandez on the 400 relay, which took third place.

Jimenez, Romero, Paulina Hernandez, and Jasmin Hernandez placed fourth in the 800 relay.

Melena Ramirez also earned a top-five finish, placing fourth in the 100 hurdles.

The Prowlers JV placed seventh as a team in Division 2.
