Fort Stockton tennis suffers narrow defeat

The Fort Stockton tennis nearly team nearly claimed their first district victory of the season in their second district outing on Sept. 28 at Pecos.

“Starting off the match down 0-1 with being short a mixed doubles team we knew it was going to be a battle,” Panthers head coach Victor Garcia said.

On the girls side Angelique Flores came away with the Prowlers lone victory, doing so in her No. 4 singles match against Alexis Urias (6-0, 6-4)

“The win gave us hope, showing that with a clean sweep on the boys side with bring us to a 10-9 victory,” Garcia added.

Fort Stockton almost garnered a sweep on the boys side but were unable to record a win in the No. 6 boys singles match.

Jacob Pacheco, Jeremiah Ramirez, Freddy Gonzalez, Cruz Rocha, and Christian Dominguez all claimed two wins apiece for the Panthers.

The Panthers are now 0-2 in district with Odessa Compass Academy and Monahans left to play. Fort Stockton will host Compass Academy on Saturday, Oct. 2 starting at 10 a.m.
