Aguilar’s career night leads Panthers route of Bucks
Over the course of Fort Stockton’s first two games, quarterback Dominic Aguilar and running back Corbin Luna have shown that they will be a formidable duo on the ground this season.
Aguilar scored a careerhigh four rushing touchdowns on Aug. 27 at El Paso Bowie and on Sept. 3, Aguilar reset his careerhigh in front of the Panther faithful in Fort Stockton’s home-opener against neighbor rival Alpine.
Aguilar ran for five touchdowns and 231 yards in the Panthers 46-10 victory over the Bucks. Aguilar’s hurdling of a defender on his 35-yard TD run in the fourth quarter highlighted the senior’s day on the gridiron.
“The key to my success has been our wonderful coaching staff and we have a great team. Without my team we aren’t successful, it’s not a one-man game,” Aguilar said. “I’m thankful for everything they do for me.”
Luna had a rushing touchdown in the first half to accompany Aguilar’s three rushing TDs, giving Fort Stockton a 27-0 lead at the break. The sophomore rushed for a career-best 137 yards on 19 carries.
Fort Stockton head coach Mike Peters iterated after Friday’s game that being able to be successful running the ball is critical to his team’s success.
“We’ve always been able to run the football. That’s what we do and that opens up other things for us. I’m glad to see that we’re having success with that. The offensive line has done a tremendous job over the last couple of games,” Peters said. “Of course Dom at quarterback has done an excellent job and so has everybody that we’ve brought in at tailback.”
Jaydrien Ramirez capped the Panthers exceptional game running the ball with a 70-yard run for a score with 5:24 left in the contest.
Fort Stockton forced three turnovers in the game as Aguilar and Isaiah Garcia each recorded an interception. Ramirez also recovered a fumble.
Fort Stockton sixthyear head coach Mike Peters now is 4-1 against Alpine since arriving in Fort Stockton.
The Panthers will play El Paso Horizon at home next Friday. Horizon beat El Paso Bowie, who Fort Stockton played a week ago, 54-20 on Sept. 3.
