The single most effective thing to prevent injuries and death in a car crash is to wear your seat belt. While most drivers and passengers are wearing their seat belts in the front seat, many adults riding in the back seat do not feel they need to buckle their seat belt.

Below is an open letter that was received in an e-mail shortly ago by the Pioneer from Fort Stockton ISD Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Zamora.

The letter is in regard to the result of the Fort Stockton bond election. Please note, there were 10 ballots that needed correction forms returned to count and three have been returned as of today. Stones are a basic part of our lives. We’ve been around stones since birth. We’ve played with them, thrown them, skipped them if we lived close to a lake. We built things with them, and stepped on them with our bare feet.

Some crepe myrtles very sensitive to extreme cold

Body
Dear Neil: I’m hoping you can shed some light on my crepe myrtle’s issues. Early last spring it had some dead branches. I cut them out, and it did flower, but not as well as usual. Now it has dropped leaves much earlier than other plants in others’ yards down the street. Any suggestions?

“Inside every old person is a young person wondering what happened.” Those are the clever words of British humorist Terry Pratchett, who couldn’t have explained the aging process more succinctly. I know his words are true because I turned 60 this week.
