FAITH COLUMN
By the time this devotional “hits the stands” we will have a new president and vice president. Some will be incredibly happy about that while others will deny the legitimacy of the recent election.
Whatever is a Christian to do?
First of I urge cations, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, two forkings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.
The fact is, whoever is the installed president is our president. I was reared in a Christian family and was taught at an early age to pray regularly for them. Since I was born the year after FDR died, I have had the opportunity to pray for everyone who has held that office since then. There have been liberals and conservatives and moderates. There have been two of three Republicans and Democrats. The fact is over the years there have been some who my family approved and some they have not. In spite of that, each of them has been my president, our president, the president. Donald Trump has been my president. I prayed for him every day. As of yesterday, Joe Biden is my president. This is not a matter of political party. It is a matter of hearing and obeying Paul’s letter to Timothy. It is not a matter of agreeing with a leader. It is not a matter of loving him (or her). It is a matter our holy scripture tells us to do.
Let us pray.
