Bob Milton Cates
Bob Milton Cates, 78, of Fort Stockton, Texas, passed away on May 6, 2026.
Bob was born on October 1, 1947, in Harlingen, Texas. He lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, generosity, and a deep love for family and friends. Bob was a proud Army veteran who served in Vietnam from 1968-1970.
Throughout his life, Bob wore many hats. He worked as a cowboy, in the oilfield, at the local feedlot, and later at Ste. Genevieve Winery. No matter the job, Bob was known for his strong work ethic and the friendships he made along the way. He truly never met a stranger and would gladly give anyone the shirt off his back.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Keelie Holland and spouse Chris of Gadsden, Alabama; son Cody Cates of Whitney, Texas; grandson, Silas and granddaughter, Taylor of Gadsden, Alabama and grandson Coyd of Whitney, Texas; sister Candy Cates of Hillsboro, Oregon; sister-in-law Lynn Cates of Corpus Christi, Texas; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and his faithful dogs, Meatball and Baby Girl.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Milton Cates and Maypearl Hollida Cates, and his brother, Donald Ray Cates.
A memorial gathering will be held on June 11, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Small Community Hall in Fort Stockton, Texas.
Bob will be laid to rest with his brother Don at Coastal Bend Veterans Cemetery on June 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Southwest Veterinary Clinic 3010 W. Dickinson, Ft. Stockton, TX 79735, or the Fort Stockton American Legion Post 234 1010 W. 14th St., Ft. Stockton, TX, 79735 in Bob’s memory.
Keelie and Cody want to thank everyone who helped Bob during these last few years of his life. We are truly grateful for your love and compassion. Bob’s kindness, many stories, laughter, and unwavering willingness to help others will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
