Sofia Prieto Matta entered into rest on March 1, 2021, in McCamey, Texas. She was born June 29, 1931, to Jose Prieto and Sista Contreras Prieto in Balmorhea, Texas. She married the love of her life, Crispin S. Matta, on May 20, 1950, in Balmorhea. They raised their amazing children there, and moved to Fort Stockton, Texas, in 1979. We all knew that the time would be soon, but nothing could truly prepare us for losing our heart and soul.

Former Iraan High School graduates and current Angelo State University student athletes Axcel Santana and Cannon Andrews were name to the Lone Star Conference All-Conference Track & Field Teams for the superior performances at the LSC Indoor Championships Feb. 20-21.

Abbott’s executive order takes effect March 10

Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order on Tuesday, March 2 that lifts the mask mandate in Texas and increases capacity of all businesses and facilities in the state to 100 percent starting on Wednesday March 10.

The month of March this year was proclaimed as Pecos County Historical Commission Month by Pecos County Judge Joe Shuster by the way of a proclamation read at the commission’s regular meeting on Thursday, Feb. 25 at the Rollins-Sibley House in Fort Stockton. The proclamation calls on all Pecos County citizens to learn more about their rich history through visits to historical sites and educating themselves on our valuable contributions to the history of Texas, and the United States.
