Sofia Prieto Matta entered into rest on March 1, 2021, in McCamey, Texas. She was born June 29, 1931, to Jose Prieto and Sista Contreras Prieto in Balmorhea, Texas. She married the love of her life, Crispin S. Matta, on May 20, 1950, in Balmorhea. They raised their amazing children there, and moved to Fort Stockton, Texas, in 1979. We all knew that the time would be soon, but nothing could truly prepare us for losing our heart and soul.

Sofia was a devoted Catholic who was always praying. Family was very important to her, and she loved nothing more then to spend time with her loved ones. She always made sure that her family knew that they came first in her life. Sofia loved dancing and singing, and enjoyed socializing with everyone. She never met a stranger, and she was quick to hold any baby that came to her house. No one ever left her house without seeing her hospitality, and everyone always received her blessings before parting ways. 

Sofia Matta was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, the love of her life Crispin, her son-in-law Jesus Sotelo, and her great grandson Micah Gilbert. 

Sofia is survived by her sons Felix and Jason Matta; daughters Irenia Sotelo and Victoria and David Stewart; grandchildren Stephanie Matta and Joe Suchil, Fabian and Myra Matta, Wendell and Denise Gilbert, Derick Matta, Crystal and Pride J. Bassham, Sally Sotelo and Robert Hicks, Dolores Sotelo, and Cassandra Matta; great grandchildren Obadiah Pruitt, Jasmine Suchil, Desiree Suchil, Caleb Gilbert, Heaven Valles, Gabriel Murphy, Ethan Matta, Serenity Mendoza, Gloria Mendoza, Logan Hardy, Landon Matta, Austin Bassham, Pride D. Bassham, and Stacey Jamison; and great-great granddaughter Hayden Bassham.

Visitation was held at Heritage Funeral Home on March 8, 2021, and Memorial Service on March 9, 2021, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Downtown Campus.
