Seminole 57 Panthers 8th Grade Blue 18

The Fort Stockton eighth grade blue team began the season with a 57-18 loss to Seminole on Nov. 15.

“The panthers struggled early and couldn’t get anything going, which led to a loss,” coach Ruben Magallan said.

Kasch Norman and Nick Almendariz led the team with eight points each.

The Panthers will play Greenwood in two weeks.

Rios claims gold at Hobbs Invite

Senior Quaylon Rios proved himself against elite competition on Nov. 13 at the 15-team Hobbs Invitational.

Rios captured a gold medal in the 100 butterfly by two seconds and nearly a school record. His time of 57.42 seconds was approximately one second away from the record.

Rios added a fifth-place finish in the 50 free.

The team finished with 15 points.

FSISD adds Spanish Trail Lodge to housing arsenal

School housing for professional staff within the Fort Stockton Independent School District made a significant leap in quantity on Nov. 15 at the district’s regular board meeting.

The Fort Stockton ISD school board decided to move forward with the purchase of the Spanish Trail Lodge for $705,000.

The facility is planned to be a significant recruitment tool for new professional staff in the future.

Hotel tax to aid convention center renovations

The Fort Stockton Convention Center will begin to receive additional funds for the renovation of the facility beginning on Dec. 1.

A new hotel tax will begin to be imposed within city limits starting on Dec. 1 in Fort Stockton after a canvas of votes was approved at the city council’s regular meeting on Nov. 8.

The city held a special election on Nov. 2 in order to pass a hotel occupancy tax, which is to not exceed 2% of the price paid for such a room.
