FSCT awarded grant for meeting hall renovations

Fort Stockton Community Theatre received word that it has been awarded $40,000 for a “Finishing Touches” grant from the Florence Marie Hall Foundation in Midland. The FMH Foundation and FSCT share a mission and vision to foster collaboration, innovation, creativity, excellence, synergy and development.

Montoya hired on for city marketing

Melba Montoya was hired on Oct. 18 as the Marketing Sales and Events Coordinator for the City of Fort Stockton.

The full-time position has kept her busy with promoting the city's Convention Center, which is still undergoing renovations. The completed areas include the city's CVB offices, designated meeting spaces, and recently opened movie theater.

Fort Stockton man charged with aggravated assault aggravated assault with deadly weapon in shooting

A Fort Stockton man is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and being held in the county jail on $100,000 bond after a shooting in the early morning hours of Oct. 31.

The Pecos County Sheriff’s Office reported that Ronald Baca, 35, was arrested on Nov. 5 after allegedly assaulting John Bryan Rivera on Halloween by the intersection of 53rd Lane and Highway 18.

Fort Stockton Rotary Club secures distribution center

The city of Fort Stockton does not have a Goodwill, but instead distributes clothing and household items to the needy through a center called El Buen Viceno. For more than 30 years El Buen Vecino has provided quality, gently used items such as women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, books, electronics, furniture, and miscellaneous housewares to needy members of the Fort Stockton community.

Hasty demolition improves local neighborhood

Fort Stockton’s Substandard Building Committee was formed to ensure public safety by securing, repairing, or removing local properties that are abandoned or deemed hazardous. Another success story has resulted from the committee’s meetings with 802 W.
