Rotary Toy Drive concludes on Dec. 10

With a Dec. 10 deadline approaching, the Fort Stockton Rotary is again in need of new, unwrapped toys to give to area children for Christmas.

Every year the Rotary Club collects toys from the drop off boxes around town, then delivers them to the homes of children who might not get a good Christmas.

Senior Center to Host Christmas Lunch

After nearly a year of being unable to host gatherings because of COVID restrictions, the Pecos County Senior Center will hold a Christmas luncheon at noon on Friday, Dec. 17. The meal is free to all Senior Center members, but memberships are only $5 a year and open to all Pecos County seniors.

Fort Stockton ISD, Texas Tech K-12 form historic partnership

An unprecedented partnership between the Fort Stockton Independent School District and the Texas Tech University K-12 online academic program became official on Dec. 1 at the district’s special school board meeting.

The Fort Stockton ISD school board unanimously approved the partnership, which is scheduled to begin next semester.

The partnership is the first of its kind in the state of Texas according to TTU K-12 Interim Superintendent Dr. Justin Louder.

COVID numbers stabilize below 30

COVID-19 confirmed active cases in Pecos County have stabilized in the past week. For the past six days, confirmed case numbers have stayed in the 20’s – the longest streak of active cases below 30 since the end of October.

Ricky Eugene Gaines, of Stockton, CA at 9:33 a.m., officers from the Department of Public Safety apprehended Gaines and he was charged with trafficking of persons less than 18-years-old. Gaines received a $30,000 bond and was released on Nov. 21.

Xi Leta Lambda hosts Holiday Auction

For the first time in 15 years, the Xi Leta Lambda sorority held a Holiday Auction to raise money for scholarships for Fort Stockton High School students. Sorority members made over 40 items ranging from decorations, gift baskets, and baked goods for the auction on Nov.

PCSB to sponsor Foster Child Giving Tree

Child Protective Services has joined efforts with The Pecos County State Bank in sponsoring the “Foster Child Giving Tree” this year. Paper ornaments with names of foster children from our area, with their Christmas wishes, are available at The Pecos County State Bank to pick up and spread the Christmas joy by shopping and providing the gift listed.
