Attorney Michael J. Bagley from the Bagley Law Firm secured two directed verdicts of not guilty on two state criminal cases tried in Fort Stockton on Aug. 22-23 in the 83rd Judicial Court and District Judge Robert E. Cadena. His court appointed client, Casey Ann Gregory Free, was charged with a first-degree felony of manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance (meth) and a third-degree felony of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

If convicted, Free would have faced a minimum of five years imprisonment to 99 years or life on the drug charge, and two to 10 years in prison for the gun charge.

After a day-and-a-half of testimony in front of a jury, Cadena granted Bagley’s motions for directed verdict, and instructed the jury to return with two verdicts of not guilty. The judge found that the state/district attorney’s offices did not prove their respective cases as a matter of law.

The case was tried for the state by Ori T. White, the District Attorney for the 83 Judicial District covering Fort Stockton and Pecos County.
