Early voting underway for May 7 election

A total of five local seats within the Fort Stockton Independent School District School Board and the Fort Stockton City Council will be decided in the upcoming May 7 election. Early voting for the election began on April 25 and will run through Tuesday, May 3.

Renovations, additions begin at Gene Cummings Park

Additions to Gene Cummings Park will soon come to fruition for Fort Stockton residents and visitors. The Fort Stockton City Council held a groundbreaking ceremony on April 25 at the park for the new walking trail, basketball court pavilion, and water reclamation additions, which are scheduled to be finished by June 17.

Grey Mule Wine Saloon to reopen on April 21 under new ownership

Just 95 days after closing its doors for the foreseeable future, the Grey Mule Wine Saloon is reopening under new ownership.

The historic wine tasting room in Fort Stockton will hold a reopening event on Thursday, April 21 from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the business’ newly revamped building. The event will feature live music by Al Haney from 6-8 p.m., as well their regular menu that features food (cheese and meat boards/pizza) and a variety of beverages.

Erlinda Michelle Chavez, of Fort Stockton at 4:25 p.m., officers from the Department of Public Safety apprehended Chavez on three warrants: failure to appear-possession of a controlled substance penalty group one less than one gram, failure to appear-bail jumping and fail to appear, GJI-bail jumping and fail to appear. The 112th Judge recalled Chavez’s warrants and was released on April 15.

Belding Farms and Texas Water Trade launch irrigation trial

Belding Farms, one of the largest pecan growers in Texas, and Texas Water Trade, a nonprofit water-conservation organization, have launched their first joint project in Pecos County to save irrigation water through low-evaporation sprinklers.

The project is being carried out on 96 acres of Belding Farms’ trees and is designed to determine whether they produce more pecans using the sprinkler system, whether less labor is required for the irrigation process, and how much water may be saved.

Library to get new automation system

Funded through a grant, the Fort Stockton Public Library will start using a new automation system. The Pecos County Commissioners Court unanimously approved allowing the library to migrate to Book Systems, which is being paid by Tocker Foundation at no cost to the county until after the fifth subscription year.

Census changes voter precincts, school wards

Body
Voter ballots and the location they vote at may be different for the upcoming election due to the most recent census. The census caused changes to the city’s school wards and Pecos County precincts.
