Certified paramedics to get stipend

Two of the 12 paramedics in the county will receive a stipend for completing Certified Critical Care.

“These two individuals have taken additional courses to become certified in this area to better provide patient care at a more advanced level than a regular paramedic,” said Lucia Mackintosh Castro of Pecos County Emergency Medical Services.

County clean-up dates set

In conjunction with the city of Fort Stockton, the Pecos County Commissioners Court set the dates for the county clean-up for April 11 through April 29. The first week will aid the city in their spring bulky pick-up.

Gene Cummings Park to receive additions

Gene Cummings Park in Fort Stockton could soon be one of the top outdoor attractions for the youth and families in Fort Stockton with the planned renovations and additions by the city’s Economic Development Corporation.

The earliest addition will be a new $60,000 walking trail that will feature the nearby Helen Dionne Memorial Garden, which was approved at the EDC’s meeting on March 17.

The trail will be 1,800 feet – equivalent to just over a 1/3 of a mile in length.

Congressman Gonzales secures $1 million for Center of Big Bend Studies

Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) secured $1 million in funds for the Sul Ross State University’s Archaeology, Anthropology and Cultural Research Center, better known as the Center of Big Bend Studies (CBBS), during the 2022 budget process.

President Biden signed the budget into law on March 15, certifying these funds for Texas’ 23rd Congressional District.

Purified air devices a possibility at PCMH

Pecos County Memorial Hospital (PCMH) is looking at improving the air quality inside of its facilities. On average, we spend between 80% to 95% of our lives breathing in more than 2,000 gallons of indoor air every day, according to WellAir.

High winds damage game room, hotel

The Lucky 777 game room on Dickinson Boulevard in Fort Stockton had a majority of its roof removed by high winds on March 21 and as a result, the neighboring Deluxe Inn received significant damage to three rooms and two vehicles parked at the location. Windows were broken in the three rooms and the structure also received damaged to the roof and siding. Wind gusts were reported to be over 40 miles per hour on Monday. Fort Stockton Police Chief Robert Lujan confirmed no one was injured in the incident. Two arrested in city shooting

A shooting at a residence inside of Fort Stockton city limits led to the arrest of two individuals on March 15. No injuries were reported in the incident that happened at 4:59 a.m.

CVB Board drops to nine members, street fixture plans presented

The Fort Stockton City Council unanimously approved a change to Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Board by-laws on March 14 at the group’s regular meeting.

The city council approved the resignation CVB board members of Jordan Gonzales and Heather Noah at the meeting and as a result, the board will now consist of nine people instead of 11.

The board was previously at seven people in years past but grew to 11 people after the Fort Stockton Downtown Association officially dissolved last year.
