Firefighters are looking to the skies for much-needed rain this week as crews continue battling wildfires across the state. Fires reported Sunday by the Texas A&M Forest Service were being fought in Brown, Taylor, Wilbarger, Llano, Schleicher and San Saba counties.

Capital Highlights: ERCOT urges Texans to conserve power

After six power generation plants went offline Friday during the start to an unseasonably hot weekend, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas urged Texans to conserve power, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

As temperatures soared into the 90s and even 100s in some parts of the state, residents were urged to set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher and avoid using large appliances such as dishwashers, washers and dryers between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. The hot weather is sparking record electricity demand across the state.

Student supplies purchase approved

Fort Stockton ISD parents and guardians will once again get the opportunity to save a substantial amount of money on school supplies via the Student School Supplies Bulk Purchase Program. The FSISD School Board approved the program at their regular meeting on April 27, marking the second consecutive year the program will be set into motion.

This year’s primary runoff election on May 24 will feature one local race in Fort Stockton. Republicans Darla Cude and Tammy Lujan are the two candidates vying for the District Clerk seat.

Search for new Fort Stockton ISD AD, football coach underway

The search for a new athletic director and head football coach at Fort Stockton ISD officially began a week ago after former head coach and AD Mike Peters was named the Saginaw ISD head football coach and Campus Athletic Coordinator.

Fort Stockton ISD Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Zamora confirmed that search began early last week after receiving the news from Peters that he accepted a job offer from another district.
