Rooney Park in Fort Stockton, Sheffield Park, and Iraan’s Alley Oop Park will be the three locations in Pecos County without any firework restriction on July 4.

The restriction was put in place due to the drought conditions in the county.

The Pecos County Commissioners Court approved a restriction at their regular meeting on June 13 for fireworks classified as “skyrockets with sticks” and “missiles with fins” in any portion of the unincorporated area of Pecos County.

According to the order restriction, no person may sell, detonate, ignite, or in any way use fireworks as previously described.

An offense under the order is a Class C misdemeanor. A person commits an offense is the person knowingly or intentionally violates a prohibition established by the order.

The order does not prohibit common fireworks (small in size, Class C explosives) or large firework devices that area designed primarily to produce visible or audible effects by combustion, deflagration, or detonation – classified as a Class B explosive by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
