Gov. Rick Perry will deliver the spring commencement address at Sul Ross State University on Friday, May 8, at 4 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the Pete P. Gallego Center in Alpine.

Perry, who served as the 47th Governor of Texas from 2000 to 2015, remains the longest-serving governor in state history. During his tenure, he championed pro-growth economic policies that helped position Texas as one of the world’s largest economies and a national leader in job creation, energy production and innovation.

Following his time as governor, Perry served as the 14th U.S. Secretary of Energy from 2017 to 2019. In that role, he oversaw the Department of Energy’s expansive mission, including stewardship of the nation’s nuclear arsenal, advancement of scientific research, protection of the electric grid, and the promotion of American energy leadership worldwide.
