City cleanup now through April 2
Fort Stockton is in the mood for a little spring cleaning, and through April 2, residents who present a current city utility bill and a valid ID can dispose of up to two loads of bulky items at the city landfill.
In addition, pickup will be available for the spring cleanup event for residents. Residential customers are asked to call city hall to schedule a pickup of allowed materials.
“I did speak to the public works director, we do have adequate equipment to complete this project inside the city,” Fort Stockton City Manager Frank Rodriguez said. “Historically, the spring cleanup has allowed residential – no construction, no demo, and no commercial. That’s one of the things that we’ll be making sure doesn’t happen because right now there’s a lot of people that are redoing their roofs and doing a lot of remodeling. So, we wanted to make sure that this is not what this is for.”
The following bulk items will be accepted: Tree limbs, wood, scrap metal, furniture, appliances, tires.
Items must be separated before arrival and place them at the appropriate designated areas at the City Landfill. Tires accepted must be whole and must not have rims on them. Refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners will be accepted only if the Freon has been removed by a licensed technician whose sticker is attached to those items. The following items are not accepted: Junked vehicles: electronics, oil filters, batteries, petroleum products and by-products, explosive materials, medical waste, liquid waste, paint.
The clean-up event is not for commercial customers or any other businesses.

“I wanted to make sure that we give the opportunity for our citizens,” Rodriguez added. “It would help our public works out, so if the citizens wanted to take their own at that time, during this time, it would help us out, and at the same time it would give them one extra opportunity to throw within this time frame.”
