Gas line work on Hornbeck underway

The City of Fort Stockton Gas Department this week began replacing cast-iron gas lines on Hornbeck Boulevard with stateregulated poly pipe. As of now, they will be replacing 19,000 feet of four-inch underground pipe, and the project is expected to last two months.

Water district eligible for loan and grant

The Pecos County Water Control and Improvement District has been notified that the district is eligible for a loan and grant from the USDA that will allow improvements and upgrades its infrastructure. These improvements will provide for installation of larger distribution pipes that will, in turn, allow installation of new water taps with greater assurance of water quality and pressure.

The Big Bend Open Road Race returns

The most challenging road race in the world is back! For the first time in the event’s history, the Big Bend Open Road Race was cancelled a year ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But as Texas returns to normal and pre-pandemic conditions, so does the race that draws in hundreds of drivers from across the nation.

Complex destroyed in fire

No one was hurt or injured in Tuesday’s fire at a tank battery complex site eight miles east of Fort Stockton, just south of mile marker 266. All six Fort Stockton Volunteer Fire Department fire trucks responded to a call at 1:32 p.m.

NEW OFFICERS IN TOWN

The Fort Stockton Police Department welcomed two new officers last week. Fort Stockton native Leilani Bernal and El Paso native Isaiah Marquez began their tenures with the department on April 5. PCHC presents plans for 150th anniversary

The celebration plans for the 150th anniversary of the founding of Pecos County were at the center of discussion at the Pecos County Historical Commission regular meeting on April 15. The commission plans to host a short presentation on May 3 to commemorate the creation of Pecos County on the day of its historical conception.
