The Fort Stockton Police Department’s only K-9 for the past seven years, Fauce, had a decision made on his future after an assessment performed by Hill Country Dog Center in Pipe Creek this past week.

Following a departure of the K-9’s handler for the past five years, Quito Vargas, who took a job with the Midland Police Department last month, Fort Stockton Police Chief Robert Lujan made the decision to have the 7-yearold Belgian Malinois assessed to determine if the dog could still perform its officer duties.

Fort Stockton Police Department K-9, Fauce, passed his assessment to continue his service as an officer this past week. The 7-year-old Belgian Malinois is currently being housed at the city’s shelter until a handler is assigned to him.

That way they know that we know, and we care,” Lujan said. The police chief added that each individual officer can purchase the badge from Badge and Wallet – the company that makes the department’s badges. The badges costed approximately $150 apiece.
