Buena Vista, Iraan advance to One Act Play area competition
Pecos County was well represented at the 9A and 10A Bi-District One Act Play Competition at Rankin High School on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
Troupes from Rankin, Buena Vista, Iraan, Marfa, Fort Davis, and Valentine performed a range of theatrical offerings for a three-judge panel.
Buena Vista High School and Iraan High School advanced to the area competition in San Angelo on Saturday, April 1. Following their superb performances at the bidistrict competition.
Buena Vista performed scenes from “The Creature Creeps” by Jack Sharkey under the direction of Debra Hendricks and Kevin Gomez.
Cast members include: Jobey Jurado, Michal Behm, Ryan Rogers, Cody Schoenfeldt, Mikki Mandujano, David Dominguez, Crystal Branham, Clarissa Martinez, Kiele Sickler, Milli Mandujano, Madison Martin, and Cora Wilmott. Supporting crew members are Destiny Jurado, Caitlyn Soto, Elianna Molina, Cole Caughman, Aiden Lopez, Jackie Jurado, Jaden Jurado, and Whitney Tarin. Alternates are Aaliyah Arredondo, Braxton Eades, Tristan Griffin.
Iraan performed “Daddy’s Dyin’, Who’s Got the Will?” by Del Shores. Directors for the play were Starla Harbor, Kay Davis, and Joshua Aguirre.
Cast members are Daryanna Perez, Kali Davis, Abigail Lopez, Kiley Huffman, Michael Smith, Paola Saucedo, Braden Kent, and Blake Starkweather. They are supported by crew members Ellie Najera, Adamari Solis, Melanie Martinez, Shelby Wells, Karina Rico, Mia A’Tef, Carista Rico-Galindo, Jessica Garcia, Damon Torres, Kyler Ledford, Matthew Willock, Xavier Gervacio. Alternates include Regan Armstrong, Naylea Mendoza, and Hanna Riley.
In addition to both plays advancing to the next level of competition, several students received individual accolades.
Outstanding Technical honors went to Destiny Jurado of Buena Vista and Adamari Solis of Iraan.
Michal Behm (Buena Vista), Michael Smith (Iraan), and Paola Saucedo (Iraan) were named to the Honorable Mention All Star Cast.
Jobey Jurado (Buena Vista), Abigail Lopez (Iraan), and Daryanna Perez (Iraan) were selected for the Bi-District All-Star Cast.
Angelo State University will host the area round of One Act Play competition at ASU Auditorium. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend performances beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 1. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
