The Fort Stockton City Council met Monday evening at City Hall, addressing key agenda items including an annexation request, economic development resolutions and recognition of local student athletes.

The Pecos County Commissioners Court held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, April 14, addressing key economic, infrastructure, and community initiatives. The session began with an invocation by Pct 3 Commissioner Mickey Jack Perry, at 10:00 a.m.

The Pecos County Senior Citizens Center invites members to its monthly potluck lunch on Friday, April 11, at noon, featuring a festive Easter meal. The center will provide ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, and meatloaf, while attendees are encouraged to bring side dishes or desserts to share.

Pecos County Election Administrator, Sophia Franco recently participated in the Texas Association of Counties’ 2025 County Elections Academy, held March 30-April 1 in Georgetown in Williamson County.

Movie enthusiasts are in for a treat this weekend as the Fort Stockton Film Society hosts a free screening of the 1973 Academy Award-winning film “The Sting,” starring Robert Redford and Paul Newman. The event will take place on Saturday, April 12, at 7:00 p.m. at the Fort Stockton Community Theatre (102 South Nelson).

A recent archeological dig in Big Bend has uncovered an almost completely intact hunting kit, that archeologists believe could indicate human settlement occurred in the region early than previously thought. Found inside a remote cave in Big Bend National Park, the Center for Big Bend Studies Director Bryon Schroeder believes this new find can be applied to other dig sites within the Big Bend region.

The Sul Ross Department of Visual and Performing Arts opens Next to Normal, a contemporary rock musical with music by Tom Kitt and book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, on April 4. Winner of three Tony Awards in 2009 and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2010, Next to Normal centers around suburban mother Diana Goodman diagnosed with bipolar disorder brought on by a past family trauma. Diana’s family struggles to cope with Diana’s condition and their own mental health. Next to Normal is the story of a family in crisis just trying to be “normal.”
