When I was researching the history of Fort Lancaster (1855-1861) for Texas Parks & Wildlife, one of the original sources was the inspection of the post in 1860 by Joesph Mansfield, the Inspector General of the Army. The report included an excellent map. Fort Lancaster was one of the most isolated posts in Texas, and no civilian settlement existed. It was located on the Overland Trail between San Antonio and El Paso and built close to good water sources, Live Oak Creek and the Pecos River.

Fort Stockton Community Theatre is proud to announce that Barrio Fest III, a Celebration of the History, Culture, and Traditions of the Hispanic Culture in Fort Stockton, will kick off Friday, September 13 and continue through Sunday, September 15. Jerry Leon Gallemore, 81, of Fort Stockton, passed away in his sleep at his home with family nearby on July 14. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 25 at Eternity Funeral Home, 600 E. Dickinson, Fort Stockton.

On July 10, the Fort Stockton High School Athletic Department collaborated with the Pecos County EMS to conduct a comprehensive clinic aimed at enhancing emergency response procedures for on-field incidents. The event took place at the Panther Stadium Football Field, where athletic trainers and paramedics worked together through various emergency scenarios.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced today that Sul Ross State University in Alpine has met the criteria to advance their provisional status in its quest to transition into Division II athletic competition. In early 2023, Athletic Director Amanda Workman said the university would apply for DII status, which was approved last July.
