SRSU nursing students receive equipment donation

The Sul Ross State University Department of Nursing was provided with lab equipment worth more than $2,700 from the Permian Basin Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Intravenous start kits, tourniquets, syringes, needles, tubing and simulated medication dosages were among the equipment. The PBAHEC representative also explained that several scholarships are available to Sul Ross’ nursing students. The center, funded through the Health Resources and Services Administration and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, serves 27 counties in West Texas.

Pecos County Senior Center hosts 4th of July Hot Dog Lunch, Monday

The Pecos County Senior Citizens Center will host its annual 4th of July Hot Dog Cookout Monday, July 3, at 12 noon. Grilled hot dogs with all the fixings will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring a side dish. The cookout is open to all Senior Center members, but any Pecos County resident 55 and older may join by paying annual dues of only $5.

Rosemarie Gonzalez Ybarra, 62, a beloved mother, wife, daughter, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed into her eternal life in heaven on June 19, 2023, in Bryan-College Station, Texas. She was born on April 4, 1961, to Baldomero C. Gonzalez and Estefana Bustos Barrera in Sanderson, Texas.

Senon Garcia Gonzales, 86 years old of Fort Stockton, passed away peacefully with his Family by his side on June 21, 2023, in Midland. Funeral services took place at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Monday June 26, 2023, at 10 a.m. in Fort Stockton with Father Francis Njoku officiating. Burial followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Martinez Funeral Home and Crematory from Odessa, Texas.

Brian Ray Gaylor, age 51, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023 surrounded by his wife and children.

Brian was born in Healdsburg, California in 1972 to Billy and Darolyn Gaylor. He worked in the oil and gas industry his entire life. He enjoyed his career and was a hard worker. His priority was always keeping the people that relied on him safe.

Juneteenth To the Editor, June 19th, 1865, is celebrated by many as the emancipation of slaves in the USA. According to records emancipation was granted in January of 1863 however the Civil War wasn’t over until April of 1865.
