City sets pay for election officials

With early voting for the Fort Stockton Mayoral Runoff Election beginning next week, the Fort Stockton City Council on May 22 approved the rate of pay for the officials who will be working at the election site. The Presiding Judge for the election will be Linda Blanco, Early Voting Ballot Board Judge will be Sandy Young, and the alternate for both will be Abbey Allen.

Bid to halt groundwater permit denied

FORT STOCKTON — Belding Farms, a pecan grower in Fort Stockton that is seeking to stop renewal of a groundwater permit to export water out of Pecos County, was denied its legal request to halt the process on Tuesday.

Wildlife Researchers Exploring Wildlife Interactions in West Texas

ALPINE – Borderlands Research Institute (BRI), housed at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, is partnering with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), Cesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute (CKWRI), Texas Tech University (TTU), and landowners to study long-term wildlife interactions among aoudad, elk, pronghorn, mule deer and desert bighorn sheep in West Texas.
Researchers placed tracking collars on a total of 306 animals in the mountains of West Texas this spring, including the aoudad pictured here.
