It may seem a cruel thing to ask whether the government gives too much money away in the name of helping the poor, especially at this time of year, when reminders to help the less fortunate are omnipresent. It is nonetheless necessary to pose the question.

Panthers show promising signs of progress

The Fort Stockton basketball program ended their 2021-2022 campaign with a 7-23 record a season ago. Fast forward nine months and the Panthers have already surpassed their win total from last season before district play has started.

Favorable district sets up playoff push for Prowlers

On paper, the Prowlers path to the playoffs is feasible – likely more so than it has been the last seasons. Fort Stockton’s district – 4A District 3 – has only one team with a winning record entering the final week of non-district play.

Battling through adversity will be key component to the Panthers success in district play starting in a few weeks.

Fort Stockton successfully did that and took a step forward from a season ago in their home gym at the West Texas Shootout last week.

The Panthers’ six-game outing and sixth place finish was headlined by a 61-58 victory against local rival Alpine.
