Boxing: Mendoza maintains perfect record via split decision

Perfection continues on.

West Texas native Abel Mendoza improved his undefeated record to 35-0 on Saturday at the Midtown Beatdown at the La Hacienda Event Center in Midland with a hard-fought split decision victory over Argentinan boxer Alan Isaias Luques Castillo.

Edelia Moya Dutchover, 71, of Fort Stockton, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on Sept.17, 2022. Edelia was born on Aug. 14, 1951, in Lamesa, Texas, to Donna Medrano and Leonardo Moya.

She was preceded in death by her mother Donna, and her sister Patsy Sproles. She is survived by the love of her life Pedro Torres; two sons Natividad Garcia and Tim Dutchover; and her stepfather Rudy Iglesias.

Blackwell School becomes National Historic Site

The Blackwell School in Marfa was officially designated as a National Historic Site and a part of the National Park System this past Tuesday.

Congressman of the school’s region, Tony Gonzales, spearheaded the bill over a year ago with the hopes of preserving an important piece of Latino history to the area.

The junior varsity Panthers undefeated streak is alive and well.

Fort Stockton’s record improved to 5-0 on the season with their most dominant win of their 2022 campaign on Thursday in a neutral site game against Ysleta.

Jayden Ramirez's 30-yard scoop and score off a Ysleta fumble caused by EJ Ortiz highlighted the Panthers 34-point victory.

Fort Stockton’s most notorious annual barbecue cookoff is back and once again, it’s for a great cause that can be a blessing for many. Some of the best barbecuers in the state will converge in Fort Stockton at Rooney Park on Sept.
