The Fort Stockton Independent School District Child Nutrition Department and director Paul Casias were give a perfect review by the United States Department of Agriculture during a review conducted a month ago. Casias said the perfect score is the third one in three reviews since he took over the position in 2018. Sid Miller, Texas Department of Agriculture Commissioner said in a written letter to the district, which Casias is holding in the photo, “Mr. Paul Casias and your Child Nurtrition Department professionals are clearly committee to safeguarding the health and well-being of your students. They exemplify the highest standard of care and service by teaching children the relationship between eating and good health. City of Fort Stockton promotes severe weather notification services

Fort Stockton experienced severe weather on May 1 as the National Weather Service confirmed that three tornadoes touched down in Pecos County. The tornadic weather affected some local areas, toppling over RVs at the Roadrunner RV Park, flipping the RV Park’s playground equipment, and tipping over two semis on I-10 near Fort Stockton.
A semi tipped over just off Interstate 1-10 near mile marker 260 in Pecos County via the tornadic winds that were in the area for a brief period of time on May 1. The driver was not hurt in the incident. The road was closed at the point of incident for multiple hours according to Pecos County Emergency Management Coordinator Jessie Dominguez. Courtesy Photo

Voter turnout nearing 8-year record

Last year’s May election reached a seven-year high for voter turnout at 942 people. This year’s early voting total for the upcoming May 7 election is approaching that mark before election day.

May 1968 issue: SENIOR MEMBERS – These five Pecos County 4-H members, (L-R) Karen Wynne, Patti Johnson, Paul Weatherby, Steve Beattie, and Becky Weatherby, all senior members, will be entered in state-wide 4-H competition at Texas A&M University June 4-6. Miss Weatherby won first place in clothing educational activity, while the others all won second places at the District 6 4-H contests Saturday in Odessa.
