Some crepe myrtles very sensitive to extreme cold

Dear Neil: I’m hoping you can shed some light on my crepe myrtle’s issues. Early last spring it had some dead branches. I cut them out, and it did flower, but not as well as usual. Now it has dropped leaves much earlier than other plants in others’ yards down the street. Any suggestions?

Apache Elementary in Fort Stockton held their Creative Youth Art Show for their students last month. Students had their art put on display at the Fort Stockton Public Library a week ago. The following are the placers in Michelle Natera’s kindergarten class: Nayeli Dominguez (first), Jaziah Morgan (second), Cali Terrazas (third), Kaira Smith (fourth), Caraline Freeman (fifth), Zaiden Mata (sixth), Kyrielle Perez (honorable mention), Yarithza Carrasco (honorable mention), Jonah Miller (honorable mention). Tobias Lopez placed first in Natera’s kindergarten class. Election turnout reaches 8-year high

Voter turnout at the polls for the May 7 Constitutional Amendment and local election reached an 8-year high in the county by a significant margin after votes were tallied on election day. A total 1,473 voters voted during this election – a number that is 531 higher than last year’s seven-year record.

Severe thunderstorms triple yearly rainfall in city

The National Weather Service in Midland estimated that Fort Stockton received between 1-3 inches of rain on May 10 during a serve thunderstorm that lasted approximately an hour. The rainfall filled the Comanche Springs Canal/Creek in Rooney Park, which had been dry for two months.

Rejected, pending ballots could change 2 local election results

Body

Two results from the May 7 election have the possibility of changing by the end of the week.

Fort Stockton ISD Bond Proposition A, which currently has 359 votes against and 356 votes for, could change due to 29 mail ballots that were not received by May 7 and 10 mail ballots that are pending because of a corrective action that is required.
