COVID cases on the rise

Confirmed COVID-19 active cases in Pecos County are once again on the rise after a resurgence of the virus in the last two weeks.

The number of active cases in the county was at 29 on Nov. 5 and that number increased 46 as reported on Nov. 16.
On Nov. 11 the number of active cases surpassed 40 for the third time since the Delta variant was tracked in late July. Active case numbers increased over 40 for the first time on Aug. 26 before dropping below 40 on Sept. 15.

Panthers rout Lobos, advance in playoffs

History was made in a near flawless performance by Fort Stockton in their bi-district playoff contest against Mountain View on Nov. 12 at Van Horn Eagle Stadium.

The Panthers scored a touchdown on their first four possessions of the game and six out of their seven first-half possessions in route to a 47-8 victory. Fort Stockton took a 40-0 lead into halftime and after one possession in the second half, most of the starting units did not play the rest of the game.

FSCT awarded grant for meeting hall renovations

Fort Stockton Community Theatre received word that it has been awarded $40,000 for a “Finishing Touches” grant from the Florence Marie Hall Foundation in Midland. The FMH Foundation and FSCT share a mission and vision to foster collaboration, innovation, creativity, excellence, synergy and development.

Montoya hired on for city marketing

Melba Montoya was hired on Oct. 18 as the Marketing Sales and Events Coordinator for the City of Fort Stockton.

The full-time position has kept her busy with promoting the city's Convention Center, which is still undergoing renovations. The completed areas include the city's CVB offices, designated meeting spaces, and recently opened movie theater.

Adelia Benson Lannom, 99, of Fort Stockton, Texas, slipped away peacefully at home on Nov. 11, 2021, following a lengthy illness. Adelia was surrounded by her children at the time of her passing.

Fort Stockton man charged with aggravated assault aggravated assault with deadly weapon in shooting

Body

A Fort Stockton man is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and being held in the county jail on $100,000 bond after a shooting in the early morning hours of Oct. 31.

The Pecos County Sheriff’s Office reported that Ronald Baca, 35, was arrested on Nov. 5 after allegedly assaulting John Bryan Rivera on Halloween by the intersection of 53rd Lane and Highway 18.

Panthers district title bid falls short

Body
Scoring a touchdown on every drive was nearly a necessity to keep pace in Friday’s district title showdown between Fort Stockton and Andrews. Each team scored on three of their four first-half possessions and Andrews continued that trend from the get-go in the second half.
