Villarreal returns as Fort Stockton coach, teacher

Seeing Mary Villarreal lead the Fort Stockton softball team deep into the playoffs may have seemed like not long ago for some.

Just over three years ago she graduated from Fort Stockton High School with a softball scholarship in hand from Sul Ross State University and nearly all her general education courses complete by way of Midland College/WRTTC dual credit program.

FM 1053 closure extends to end of next week

A long-term solution for the sinkhole and the affected FM 1053 road between Fort Stockton and Imperial will be in the works in the near future according to Texas Department of Transportation Public Information Officer Gene Powell.

TxDOT shut down a section of FM 1053 -- between FM 11 and FM 1450 – on Friday because of a crack in the road that was caused by heavy rainfall.

Federico V. Valenzuela

Federico V. Valenzuela left us to rest in peace on June 16, 2021. He lived in Fort Stockton, Texas, since 1992. He dedicated his life to his work and his passion, landscaping. He also greatly enjoyed cooking for everyone he could. Above all else, he was always willing to help his fellow man.

Federico was preceded in death by his wife Lucia C. Valenzuela; his parents Aurelio and Petra Valenzuela; and grandchild Karlo K. Sales.

Entities to split recreational facility study costs

The Pecos County Commissioners decided to move forward with a $7,000 contribution towards the study of future plans for the new Fort Stockton recreational facility at Monday’s regular meeting. The dollar amount was decided upon between the city, county, and school district at this past month’s recreation board meeting.

Midland College WRTTC pinning ceremony

Midland College/Williams Regional Technical Training Center hosted a pinning ceremony on June 28 at the Fort Stockton Community Theatre for 10 individuals who earned their Certified Nursing Assistant pins this past month. The individuals who were awarded their CNA pins at Monday’s ceremony included: Carissa Chavez, Melissa Clifton, Bethany Cordova, Angela Diaz, Audrey Estrada, Austin Fetter, Leslea Fierro, Clarrisa Mendoza, Megan Moody, Natalie Paredes. The Fort Stockton Allstar 50/70 baseball team was escorted into Fort Stockton by the Fort Stockton Police Department and the Fort Stockton Fire Department on June 29. The caravan of vehicles came into town on Monahans Highway and turned west on Dickinson Blvd. before ending at Rio Street.
