Panthers 800 relay punches ticket to state

For the first time since 2007, the Fort Stockton boys track team will have a relay team run at the state.

The Panthers 800-meter relay clocked it’s two best times of the season on back-to-back days to accomplish the feat. The group which features Eliazar Lopez, Miguel Trejo, A.J. Garcia, and Aryan Hernandez finished in second place at the Class 4A Region 1 track meet in Lubbock.

FSPD K-9, Fauce, to continue service

The Fort Stockton Police Department’s only K-9 for the past seven years, Fauce, had a decision made on his future after an assessment performed by Hill Country Dog Center in Pipe Creek this past week.

Following a departure of the K-9’s handler for the past five years, Quito Vargas, who took a job with the Midland Police Department last month, Fort Stockton Police Chief Robert Lujan made the decision to have the 7-yearold Belgian Malinois assessed to determine if the dog could still perform its officer duties.

Fort Stockton Police Department K-9, Fauce, passed his assessment to continue his service as an officer this past week. The 7-year-old Belgian Malinois is currently being housed at the city’s shelter until a handler is assigned to him.

PCHC presents plans for 150th anniversary

The celebration plans for the 150th anniversary of the founding of Pecos County were at the center of discussion at the Pecos County Historical Commission regular meeting on April 15. The commission plans to host a short presentation on May 3 to commemorate the creation of Pecos County on the day of its historical conception.

The Fort Stockton Police Department welcomed two new officers last week. Fort Stockton native Leilani Bernal and El Paso native Isaiah Marquez began their tenures with the department on April 5. Complex destroyed in fire

No one was hurt or injured in Tuesday’s fire at a tank battery complex site eight miles east of Fort Stockton, just south of mile marker 266. All six Fort Stockton Volunteer Fire Department fire trucks responded to a call at 1:32 p.m.

Venom meets Panthers at final home game

The Fort Stockton based Texas Venom baseball team met the Panthers varsity baseball team and took a photo on Fort Stockton’s High School field on Friday before the team’s final home game of the season against Andrews. “Texas Venom is a 10U Baseball travel team comprised of players that love all aspects of the game. These players bring a level of dedication and intensity that their hometowns should be proud of! All the parents and coaches are proud of each and every one of these young stars for dreaming big,” Venom head coach Isai Rojas said. JV Prowlers suffer defeat to Lady Mustangs

The Fort Stockton softball team made plenty of contact at the plate during Friday’s home game against Andrews but were unable to take advantage as the Lady Mustangs were sure handed in the field. While the Prowlers were also stingy defensively, a five-run second inning by Andrews was enough for them to get a 7-1 win.
