As a kid growing up in post-World War II Los Angeles, the Rose Bowl was the year’s single most anticipated event. In sports, the Dodgers were still in Brooklyn, the Lakers in Minneapolis, and the Rams had only recently relocated from Cleveland.

Dolores Almendarez was both a Texan and a Latina, living a big life full of joy, zest, and grit, but was taken from her family by COVID-19 on Dec. 30, 2020. She was born in McCamey, Texas to Pedro Montañes Almendarez and Elisa Garcia on July 18, 1947 as the oldest of 10 children. She was an adventurous young woman – moving to Louisiana, Nigeria, England, and Scotland with her first husband Fred Day.

Prowlers JV secures comeback win against Steers

The JV Prowlers basketball team traveled to Big Spring Saturday to take on the Lady Steers once again. The Prowlers got off to a slow start offensively, but their defense kept the Lady Steers from getting an insurmountable lead.
