Boxer puts perfect record on the line

Becoming a world champion boxer has long been in the sights of Fort Stockton born boxer Abel Mendoza. The longtime Pecos resident, who is currently training out of Odessa and Midland, started his boxing career at 8-years-old.

Football season tickets on sale

Season tickets will go on sale on July 29 and will be available in the athletic office at the high school. Season ticket holders from 2019 will get the first choice of tickets for the first two weeks of sales.

The Fort Stockton Spring City Boys hosted the Los Yonke Gallos De Marfa in an adult summer league baseball game on July 17 at Blue Sox Field in Rooney Park. The game was organized by the nonprofit group, Texas Water Trade, which is spearheading the Comanche Springs restoration in collaboration with the City of Fort Stockton. The event was put on in part to raise awareness of the springs and the long-term plan to restore flow of the springs year-round. Individuals who participated in the game for Fort Stockton included: Dustin Lopez, Jordan Dominguez, Jason Williams, RJ Bernal, Isais Rojas, Adam Marlee, Fabian Zorilla, Alec Racides, Angel Marquez, Gama Corral, Orlando Racides, Saul Talavera. The quest for a world title

Becoming a world champion boxer has long been in the sights of Fort Stockton born boxer Abel Mendoza.

The longtime Pecos resident, who is currently training out of Odessa and Midland, started his boxing career at 8-years-old.

Fort Stockton born boxer Abel Mendoza was awarded a WBC regional belt for his KO victory against Daniel Mendez last month.

Fort Stockton rocked out at festival

From big hair to heavy metal music, Fort Stockton brought back the ‘80s Saturday night at the city-wide Reunion Festival held at Stockton’s Entertainment. “My goal is to have reunions that come to Fort Stockton don’t have to worry about a venue, entertainment and food,” said Ruben Falcon, founder of the festival.

Toastmasters elects new offices

The Pecos County Toastmasters met on July 16 to elect new offices for 2021-2022. Karan Heffelfinger was elected as president of the group while Lily Gonzalez selected as vice president of enrollment. Alicia Salinas is now the vice president of public relations. Santa Dominguez is the secretary/treasurer and Dee Dee Warren is the sergeant at arms. The Pecos County Toastmasters meets every other Friday at the Fort Stockton Public Library at noon. The public is invited to attend. Fort Stockton Golf Camp

Over 20 Fort Stockton fourth through ninth grade students participated in the Panther Golf Camp from July 12-14 at Desert Pines Golf Course. The student-athletes were able to work on all areas of their game in the camp, including putting, chipping, and driving. The camp was led by Fort Stockton High School head golf coach Lea Daggett. The event was the second-to-last camp Fort Stockton ISD will host this summer. The final camp will be the football camp, held from Aug. 2-4 for third to eighth grade students. Photos by Nathan Heuer
